Whereas Township of Clearview’s Strategic Plan established in 2023, identified agriculture as a core business of the municipality; and, Whereas in the new Official Plan for Clearview, one of the main objectives is to protect agriculture and agribusiness; and, Whereas the proposed Arctic Over-the-Horizon Radar (A-OTHR) project initiated by the Department of National Defence (DND), has already taken 700 acres of farmland out of production by purchasing land that will no longer be used for an agricultural purpose, with the potential to take an additional 3200 acres; and, Whereas with the DND A-OTHR project and updates to Township planning policies have garnered interest from the local agricultural community in finding ways to be proactive in supporting Council in preserving Clearview’s agricultural land and agribusiness; Now Therefore Be It Resolved that the Council of the Township of Clearview hereby direct staff to bring forward a report to Council outlining the establishment of an Agricultural Advisory Committee as a committee of Council beginning with the 2026- 2030 term, including a mandate that incorporates assisting Council in navigating and understanding new provincial and federal legislation/policies that have a direct impact on agricultural lands.
